We are Sonic Legacy, a fan comic production of Sonic the Hedgehog. Our website address is: http://soniclegacyonline.com. We’re not affiliated with SEGA, IDW, or any official Sonic company or affiliate. We are independent.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Privacy policy pages are full of unreadable legalize. We simplify it into something you can actually read. We collect information from you in these ways from our website:

Google Analytics

Who’s not using Google Analytics (GA)? We use GA to gather visitor information, which is stored in our GA account. We anonymize all the information, so no sensitive information is gathered, stored, or re-viewable. Information that is gathered are things such as your browser, screen resolution, computer OS or mobile device, how long you visited us, what page(s) you viewed, and if you found us via Google or typed in our URL directly. The just of this is: GA gathers a lot of data to help us understand what you all like and don’t like on our website to improve it, but it doesn’t gather anything sensitive about you. We like privacy, so we’ll keep it that way.

Comments

If you leave a comment on our website via the WordPress built-in comment system, through Facebook, or through Disqus that content is collected and stored in our website. Also, your visitor IP and browser user agent string are stored to help spam detection and prevention. Your comment may also be checked through an automated spam detection service (Antispam Bee).

Privacy notice from Fancy Facebook Comments:

We embed Facebook Comments plugin to allow you to leave comment at our website using your Facebook account. This plugin may collect your IP address, your web browser User Agent, store and retrieve cookies on your browser, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the commenting interface, including correlating your Facebook account with whatever action you take within the interface (such as “liking” someone’s comment, replying to other comments), if you are logged into Facebook. Privacy notice from Disqus Comments:

We use Disqus Comments widget at our website for you to be able to comment at our webpages using Disqus commenting system. Disqus may collect information about you when you register for and use the Service. Such information may include “Personally Identifiable Information” which means information that identifies you as an individual, such information may include, but is not limited to, your name, email address, telephone number, username or account ID, and “Non-Personally Identifiable Information” which means information that does not identify you as an individual. Non-Personally Identifiable Information may include, but is not limited to, information about your browser, your IP address, device ID, what pages you visit on our Partner Sites, which website you came from, what advertisements you clicked on, whether on our Partner Websites, the Service or other third party websites, and other information about your online activity that does not identify you as an individual, in accordance with their data privacy policy: https://help.disqus.com/terms-and-policies/disqus-privacy-policy

We do use Antispam Beeto monitor comments and to reduce spam. Antispam Beecollects information about you such as your IP, user agent, referrer, and website URL. If you provide your name, username, email address, and a comment, Antispam Beewill also collect that information.

If you’re using Gravatar (to show a customized avatar when you leave a comment), an anonymized string is created from your email called a hash. This hash may be provided to Gravatar. At that point, we have nothing to do with how Gravatar may store your data, and what data they’re stowing. View Gravatar’s Privacy Policy. After your comment is approved, it and your Gravatar will be shown on our public website for the entire world to see.

Contact Forms and Purchase Forms

When you fill out any form on our website, some information about you is stored. Here’s what it is:

Advertisement Inquiry Form:

In order to inquire into our advertising program, we do require some potentially sensitive information from you (a name and email for instance). This information is stored in the back-end of our website and in our database. We may also insert some of this potentially sensitive information into your top level Advertising Campaign inside of our advertising software. However, we do not and will not ever sell, distribute, or share any of your information with any external party. We may share it among Sonic Legacy staff who are in charge of the advertising program. We keep this information in order to properly administrate our advertising program.

Advertisement Purchase Form:

Our advertising purchase form requires potentially sensitive information from you, including your credit card and/or Paypal address for payment. We store your non-payment information gathered for our records internally so we can administrate our advertising program properly, and for the following purposes:

  1. To send your important account, order, or service information
  2. To respond to your inquiries, refund requests, or complaints
  3. To verify your identity and properly administer your advertising account with us

However, currently, as PayPal is our payment gateway, your actual payment information is not stored by us. Your credit card or PayPal login and payment information is stored by PayPal. We have nothing to do with it and do not have access to that information. PayPal’s Privacy Policy is here. We do not and will not ever sell, distribute, or share any of your information with any external party. We may share it among Sonic Legacy staff who are in charge of the advertising program. We keep this information in order to properly administrate our advertising program.

Cookies

In addition to the information we collect when you post a comment, if you choose to have your information saved and pre-filled in the future, that information is stored in a Cookie. These little cookies are set for your convenience and last one year. We don’t see this information, since it’s stored in your browser and not in our website. If you clear your browser’s cookies, your pre-filled information will be cleared. We cannot retrieve it for you.

Our security system

Our internal security system is always active and working. It may gather and store information from you, including your IP, ID of logged in users, usernames of login attempts for malicious activity, and password updates. All this data is stored for 60 days and then automatically wiped.  When we run internal website security scans, no personal information is sent or stored by the scanner. Security scan logs are stored for 60 days and then automatically wiped.

Embedded content from other websites

Also known as the internet of things. We may embed content from other websites into our content, such as images, videos, social media code and content, audio files, articles, documents, and so forth. Any content embedded from external websites into ours will still behave as though that content is on the parent website. In other words, embedded content on our website from other websites will still collect data and information, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and potentially monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including what you’re doing if you’re logged into the parent website of the embedded content. We have no control over this and do not have access nor store any of the information the embedded content may track about you. In this instance, you’d need to go to the parent website and view their privacy policy.

Your advertisements on our website

When your ads are shown on our website, we gather data (collectively called Statistics) concerning them: Impressions, Clicks, CTR, Rev., and ECPM. This information is never distributed, sold, or in any way shared to external parties. We do not solicit data brokers and never will. Instead, this information gathered of your Campaign will be provided to you as you request, and upon the completion of your Campaign with us. We will not provide any other Campaign data to you of other advertisers.

However, we may share your Statistics and Statistics of other advertisers among Sonic Legacy staff internally for advertising administration purposes.

If we share your data: what and to who

In a nutshell: we don’t share any data collected from any source or through any method on our website to any external party. Any and all information, anonymous or with potentially sensitive information, is stored internally only and, only when necessary for administrative purposes, shared with Sonic Legacy staff.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, submit a form, or in some other way submit information on our website, that information is stored indefinitely. If you’ve registered on our website, your user information is also stored permanently. You can see, edit, or delete your user account information (but you can’t change your username). Also note website administrators can see, edit, and delete all user information at any time.

How we protect your data

We protect any and all data on our website via our SSL certificate, which provides a high-layer of encryption and security; and through our internal website security system. 

What third parties we receive data from

As previously stated in various sections of this privacy policy, we connect to Google Analytics, PayPal, Antispam Bee, the social sharing feature on our content, Disqus comments, and potentially several other third-parties due to the nature of the plugins active on our website. While we may not store data collected from these third parties, they may be doing so. Any and all information third parties collect is out of our control and we do have access to nor store that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you want to know just what we gather and may have stored about you, send us an email and we’ll absolutely check that for you. If you want us to delete anything you’ve posted or anything store about you, just let us know. We respect privacy and will honor your request.

As previously stated, though, any embedded content or external resources called into our website may gather information about you. We cannot influence what external sources linked through APIs or other methods may gather. You’d need to check their privacy policies.

The only data we may have collected about you (anonymous or sensitive) that we may not delete is information required for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
